Michael Hemphill and Sam Riddleburger became friends while working for the same newspaper.
Sam’s coverage of a sewage treatment plant led to his book, The Qwikpick Adventure Society. Meanwhile, Michael wrote a series of articles related to the Civil War, including one in which he spent time with Civil War re-enactors.
He wanted to write a fictional piece set among re-enactors and Sam suggested having a smart-aleck kid as the main character. Neither one foresaw the many twists and turns the story would take — and the arguments they would have — before the story would become “Stonewall Hinkleman & the Battle of Bull Run.”
Michael runs a Civil War battlefield tour company.
Sam is the author of several kids books and writes a blog about kidlit and other stuff.
